It is summertime, and all I want is fresh seafood. Who's with me?!
In Maryland, we love our shrimp and crabs smothered in Old Bay. So 9 times out of 10, I am putting Old Bay on anything and everything.
This tasty Honey Butter Old Bay Shrimp is a quick, simple recipe to make whether you're grilling or cooking it up on the stovetop.
Ingredients for Honey Butter Old Bay Shrimp
Like I said before, it is only FOUR ingredients. How great is that?!
- Raw and peeled Shrimp
- Butter
- Old Bay
- Honey
The Simple Steps
So we have four ingredients, and TWO simple steps.
First, place the peeled shrimp in a bowl and pour in the old bay. Toss together so the shrimp gets covered by the old bay. You can add a bit of olive oil to help the old bay stick to the shrimp.
Second, place a skillet on medium heat. Place the butter in the skillet and let it melt. Then drizzle in the honey and mix together. Place the shrimp in the skillet, and start cooking them on the skillet!
Let the shrimp cook on each side for 4-5 minutes, until a bit golden. Then you can toss it all together so it gets fully coated with the honey butter.
Honey Butter Old Bay Shrimp Tips and Tricks!
Can the shrimp be grilled?
You sure can grill the shrimp! Toss the shrimp in old bay, then place it on the grill. In a bowl, melt the butter and then mix the honey in it. Once the shrimp is grilled, toss the shrimp in the butter honey mixture.
It's that simple, so you can easily grill or sauté the shrimp. I recommend cooking the shrimp in a Cast Iron Skillet. This is the one I use, and I love it!
Can this recipe be dairy-free?
You can easily make this a dairy-free recipe, just by using dairy-free butter. You can use Ghee, which is clarified butter. That means the lactose was taken out of the butter.
What is Old Bay?
Old Bay Seasoning is a blend of herbs and spices that is marketed by McCormick & Co. , and originally created in Baltimore, Maryland.
The seasoning mix includes celery salt, black pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, and paprika.
Homemade Old Bay Recipe

- 1/8 tsp black pepper
- 1/8tsp cayenne pepper

But you can also use another seasoning that has a good kick to it, like creole seasoning! You just want a little flavor that has a nice subtle spicy taste to it.
